Mark DeFrancesco, MD, has been practicing Obstetrics and Gynecology for more than 20 years in Waterbury, CT. He is one of the founders and serves on the Board of Directors of Physicians for Women's Health, LLC (PWH). PWH is the nation’s largest physician group practice without walls dedicated to women’s health. It includes over 150 board certified or board eligible women’s health physicians in more than 70 office locations throughout Connecticut, and 31 Clinical Trial Principal Investigators with on-site clinical coordinators.
In addition to being the Vice-President of PWH, he is a member of the Board and the Chief Medical Officer of Women's Health Connecticut, Inc., which provides management services to the physician group.
Dr. DeFrancesco is board certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology, is a Fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, and is the Chair of ACOG’s District I. He served as the Chair of ACOG’s Committee on Ambulatory Practice Operations (2005-2007) and has served on many of ACOG’s Committees and Task Forces.
He received his undergraduate education at Yale University and is a graduate of University of Connecticut School of Medicine. He earned an MBA from the University of New Haven. Dr. DeFrancesco has published several articles and has been a frequent speaker on HPV testing, various “Business of Medicine” topics, and also has presented clinical seminars on “Re-Defining the Annual Visit” at ACOG’s annual clinical meeting.
Dr. DeFrancesco has been a surveyor for the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care since 1994. He has served on the Board of the AAAHC since 2000, was recently elected Secretary of the AAAHC, and is also a member of the Board of the AAAHC’s Institute of Quality Improvement. He has also been a member of the Executive Committee of the New England Ob-Gyn Society, and is an Assistant Clinical Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Connecticut Health Center.
